Import LinkedIn Profile

How to Import Your LinkedIn Profile into AceCV

The AceCV LinkedIn Importer Chrome extension extracts your profile data, encrypts it locally, and imports it into the resume builder in one click.

Instead of manually retyping your LinkedIn profile into a resume, use the free AceCV Chrome extension to export your profile in seconds. It extracts your work experience, education, skills, languages, certifications, and contact info — then encrypts everything locally before downloading. No data is sent to any server during extraction.

Step-by-step guide

1

Install the Chrome extension

Visit the Chrome Web Store and search for "AceCV LinkedIn Importer", or follow the direct link from acecv.io. Click "Add to Chrome" to install.

2

Open your LinkedIn profile

Navigate to linkedin.com/in/me/ in Chrome. This opens your own profile. The extension only works on your own profile — it will not extract other people's profiles.

3

Click the AceCV extension icon

Click the AceCV icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the side panel. It shows a 4-step guided flow with real-time progress logs.

4

Click "Begin Extraction"

The extension navigates through your profile pages automatically, extracting your contact info, summary, work experience (including multi-role positions), education, skills, languages, and certifications.

5

Download the encrypted Profile.acecv file

Once extraction completes, click "Download Profile" to save your encrypted .acecv file. All data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM locally in your browser before downloading.

6

Import into AceCV

Open AceCV's resume builder, choose "Import from LinkedIn" as your input method, and upload the Profile.acecv file. Your resume is instantly populated with all your LinkedIn data.

Frequently asked questions

Is my LinkedIn data safe?

Yes. The extension extracts data locally in your browser and encrypts it with AES-256-GCM before creating the .acecv file. No profile data is sent to any external server during extraction. Only AceCV's server can decrypt the file when you upload it.

Can I import someone else's LinkedIn profile?

No. The extension only works on your own LinkedIn profile. It detects profile ownership by checking for edit affordances (pencil icons, "Add profile section" button) that only appear on your own profile.

What data does the extension extract?

Full name, headline, about/summary, email, phone, website URLs, work experience (including bullet points and multi-role positions), education, skills, languages with proficiency levels, and certifications.

What is a .acecv file?

It's an AES-256-GCM encrypted file containing your LinkedIn profile data in JSON format. The encryption ensures your data is protected during transfer. Only AceCV can decrypt and read it.

The extension shows "Not on your own profile"

Make sure you're logged into LinkedIn and viewing your own profile at linkedin.com/in/me/. The extension needs to detect edit buttons on the page to verify it's your profile.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome, Edge, Brave, and other Chromium-based browsers. Firefox and Safari are not supported.
